RED ROCK CONSERVATION COALITION, INC. (RRCC) - PAC
Every issue presents an opportunity for concerned community members to make a difference
Red Rockin' Residents!
We went to the State Capitol, we marched and spoke and we converged on the Sedona City Hall. For those of us who took part, it was pretty exciting. Once more, our citizen "spark plug" was there to ignite the crowd.

heard at the State Capitol in Phoenix.

October 1 (Action Day) showed our elected representatives that we are serious enough about demanding to be represented that we are willing to take action about it. We must, however, keep reminding them or they will fall back into thinking that they know more about what we want than we do. Being informed and showing up are crucial to our being represented. Locally, we have elected people to represent us, but do they?

Now what? Don’t we have enough local organizations dedicated to preserving the “wonder” of Sedona? Well . . . apparently not quite enough. Keep Sedona Beautiful (KSB) has been actively involved for almost 35 years, but has always been hampered by its not-for-profit and basically non-political status. Friends of the Forest is dedicated to supporting the USFS and staying nonpolitical. In the meantime, the Sedona area has become rife with political infighting.
Political: >adjective 1. relating to the government or public affairs of a country. 2. related to or interested in politics. 3. chiefly derogatory acting in the interests of status within an organization rather than on principle. Politics: politics >plural noun 1. the activities associated with governing a country or area, and with the political relations between states. 2. a particular set of political beliefs or principles. 3. activities aimed at gaining power within an organization: office politics. 4. the principles relating to or inherent in a sphere or activity, especially when concerned with power and status: the politics of gender.
Please notice that this is not about political parties . . . at least not yet. It is all about being
effective in conserving what is so special about the Sedona area by all appropriate means. If you feel ineffective against local media pressure encouraging development . . . if, like us, you fear that the new Sedona City Council will capitulate to development interests and approve new developments that propose a march of houses right to the tops of every ridgeline . . . or, if you have had enough of ignoring water conservation to avoid discouraging tourism . . .
THIS ORGANIZATION IS FOR YOU!

50+ people attended the initial meeting of RRCC at the Sedona Public Library. The presentation was simple and straightforward. We agreed the time has come for political action to prevent destruction of the natural wonder that surrounds the Sedona area. Although several organizations are already in place (Keep Sedona Beautiful, Sustainable Arizona, etc.), the City Council election made it obvious that it will take a watchful and energetic political action group to get between the land developers and those in positions of power to grant them all they want.
At the meeting, we identified the following priority issues:
#1: Screen, sponsor and support candidates for the Sedona City Council and other local offices.
#2: To aid politically in obtaining a Congressional Designation of the Sedona area as a National Scenic Area.
#3: To monitor and participate in the current process of creation of a new Forest Management Plan for the Coconino National Forest.
